From the outside, I look like a woman who mostly has it together. In reality, I am a woman and a mother doing her best to both parent and adult. Many days, this is hard.
My life doesn’t seem all that exciting, but in hindsight I have had some amazing and adventurous years as an adult and my childhood in the days before the tech boom was pretty magical to my mind.
I question everything and feel deeply and so living in an over-connected world is challenging. My heart feels an overwhelming sense that I should be doing more to make the world a better and kinder place. I’m also not convinced that women have enough safe spaces where they can be honest about how difficult life can be. In my mind, this contributes to our collective sense of isolation, as if we are the only ones having a tough time.
I love being behind the camera. I hate being in front of it.
Writing (especially poetry) is my therapy. Words have immense healing properties.
I have two amazing young adult children who are beginning to make their own way in the world. Their adventures are just beginning.
Right now, I am trying to figure out what life without school-age kids feels like. It is a new chapter and I am finding my feet… but hey, I have slept on the banks of the Zambezi River with a crocodile as a neighbour and been charged by a feisty Rhino. I have learned how to fly a helicopter. I have survived brain surgery and two adolescent children with my sense of humour mostly intact.
I think I can do this.
